Visitors decide in the blink of an eye

Back in 1999, a reliable study by ZONA Research showed that between 30% and 50% of users leave a company’s website if the waiting time for loading its pages exceeds 8 seconds (PDF, 90KB). In 2001, a survey carried by Digital Island showed that visitors are becoming less and less patient.

A recent study in Canada revealed that visitors make snap decisions in just 50 milliseconds or in the blink of an eye.

When I told our web designer and my manager that we only have 8 seconds to make an impression in our website, I didn’t know I was very wrong.

I guess Malcolm Gladwell was right.
