I guess it also relates to passion. I’ve noticed that passionate developers don’t stop at “it works”. Passionate developers look at every line in their code to see if it still can be improved whether it is to make it more robust or make the code simpler.

I’ve had several people give me this reason before…and my answer is always the same:

“Yeah, but the guy who builds cars needs to know the inner workings. Unless you know the inner workings of a car, you can only make something resembling a car.”
